Holiday Office Party Do's and Don'ts

There seems to be a party every other day during this time of year. I have several this year including my job's annual Christmas Party. It's a time for everyone to let loose after working so hard throughout the past year.

If your company host an annual holiday party then I am sure you've seen some very interesting antics by your fellow co-workers. My job's culture is fairly young and laid back. We've had some fun/interesting times in the past at the holiday party. If you are attending your first company holiday party I've provided you with a list of things of Do's and Don'ts.

DO

Interact with upper management. This is a chance for you to speak with people in the company that you may not regularly get the chance to connect with. Take advantage and get those network connections flowing.

DON'T

Get overly drunk. If your company provides alcohol at the party you most certainly can partake in the festivities. However, make sure to limit your intake. Remember these are co-workers not your college buddies.

DO

Attend the event. A lot of work and/or money may have put into planning this event by whomever in the company. In my opinion, not attending can come off as rude if you do not attend it. Also you may miss out on an important opportunity to discuss your future in the company.

DON'T

Bring someone, unless stated otherwise in the invitation. Typically there is a limit on beverages and/or food per person. So it is rude to and maybe even awkward to bring someone not employed by the company. Again, use this event as opportunity to interact with your colleagues

DO

Have fun. Let your hair down , don't get overly crazy but enjoy yourself. Partake in the fun games and/or contests that may happen at the party. You've worked all year so live it up a little!

DON'T

Overly discuss or nag about the company. It is important to network but don't be pushy and definitedly don't speak ill on the company. Most people don't want to hear about the office drama after being there all week. So be smart within your discussions at the party.

Follow some of these recommendations and you'll be sure to have a fantastic holiday work party! Do you have any crazy office holiday party experiences? Let me know in the comments.

Happy Blogmas Day 7! Day Late but still counts!
