Procrastinator Nation!

Admitting your flaw is the first step to fixing it! What is my biggest flaw? You read the title, procrastination. I use to see it as a skill back in school. I could wait to the hour before the assignment was due and still manage to pull something out from who knows where, and get a decent grade.

As I am getting older this has definitely become of a flaw of mine. I always think there's tomorrow or I need to do something else more "important" aka sleep, so it can wait. That flaw definitely creeps up on me when it comes to this blog. I am attempting to maintain a set schedule on posting, but the old procrastinator Taylor is still there. I have found myself waiting to the night before to write it all down.

A quote I read awhile back really resonated with me, "Don't work 8 hours for a company then go home and not work on your goals. You're not tired, your uninspired." That quote set with me for a long time as I reexamined my personal goals and current situation. I began to ask myself what am I doing for myself outside of my job? How am I making Taylor better?

This blog is certainly not my only focus, as I have multiple other areas in my life that require my attention. So I am learning, more now than ever, that I have to organize my time better if I plan on continuing this new journey in my life.

As we enter in the final quarter of the year and start a new month, I think it is important to share my tips on how I plan to minimize my procrastination flaw.

1. Buy a planner - I have probably mentioned this before in a previous post. My planner has saved me when it comes to a deadline and making sure I stay on schedule. I've bought most of planners from Target because they're cute and further make me want to use them.

2. Set realistic time frames - If you know you have 10 million things to do before agreed upon tasks needs to be completed, don't set yourself up for failure. Give yourself some wiggle room that works within your schedule.

3. No is my favorite word! - Say this out loud right now to yourself, 'IT IS OKAY TO SAY NO!' Stress is not healthy. Learning when to say no and how to properly say no will add immense peace in your life. Do not apologize for saying no.

Example: "I appreciate the offer, but no thank you. I would want to give "it" my full attention and at this moment my schedule is full."

4. Aim for done, not perfect. - Getting it over and out the way is the best feeling. Striving for perfection can put added pressure on yourself. So focus on and push yourself to just complete it. Side-note: If it is something that can make or break your career, schooling, or etc, aim for done AND perfect!

5. Complete it? Treat it! - I probably over indulge in the term, "treat yo self." However, it has definitely helped when I've had projects looming over my head. By keeping in mind at the end of it, I am rewarding myself with something special helps me complete the goal.
